Ivie's Week in Review

I like being the star student because you get to bring stuff to show your whole class. You get to bring a movie and watch it with the class. I took a test this week in math and reading. I did good. My favorite related arts class was art this week. I liked the poem of the week. We decorated it by drawing a setting and making a friend to go in the setting. I am really happy because I got two 100s on test.

Morning Message 8-22-08

Today is Friday, August 22, 2008. This week we read about what we might find in a new neighborhood. Iris moved from an urban neighborhood to a rural one. What did she investigate? “She discovered what the country would be like,” says Gracie. Aubrey says, “Iris made a new friend in the country.” Ivie says, “She rode a horse in the country, too.”

Morning Message Thursday

Today is Thursday, August 21, 2008. Today we will read two poems. What makes a poem different from a story? Anthony says, “A poem has love notes in it.” Samantha says, “They don’t have as many words as a story.” Jacob says, “You can sing a poem and a story you have to read.” Can a poem be as warm as a bath? Anthony says, “Yes, the water in a bath makes you warm and the love notes can make you warm, too.”

Today is Wednesday, August 20, 2008. In our story today, Iris and Walter go investigating. What plants could we investigate in the forest? Jake thinks we could find poison ivy. Seth says we can find beautiful flowers. Alec is going to find big trees.

Today is Tuesday, August 19, 2008. Today we will read about Iris. Iris moves to a new neighborhood, but she is lonely. What could she discover that might help her? Tre thinks she could find a dog. Haley thinks she could find a turtle. Ivie thinks she could go out and find a friend.

First Week!

Our week is going great. We are learning all about the classroom and school. We have been reading school books and reviewing addition. We are getting to know each other a little more each day.
Next week, we will start working in our reading books. The first story is about friendship. What a great way to start!
