New project about helping others

Our reading story this week is about Thanksgiving. We are all thankful for lots of things that we have at home, school, and everywhere. We want to share some of our things with others. Ms. Cade is going to fill shoeboxes with stuff. One box for a boy and one box for a girl in another country. If you want to help, send in something small that will fit in a shoebox and send it in by Friday, November 5. The boxes will be sent overseas to children who are in need. In social studies, we are talking about heros and what heros do. This is a way for us to be a small hero for someone else.

The boys suggest: finger skateboards, match box cars, small footballs, or food or candy that can't melt.

The girls suggest silly bands, dolls, hairbows, silly rings, crayons, coloring books, or bubble gum.

Holidays are a pleasant time when people gather together to celebrate. What do you do to celebrate Thanksgiving? Kara goes to her Granny's and eats lots of good food. Keylynn cooks food at his house. Miranda goes to her Grandma's house to eat turkey. Ian plays with cousins on the go-cart and trampolin. Allen celebrates his birthday as well as Thanksgiving. Tatum celebrated her papaw's birthday last year on Thanksgiving.

Sometimes we need help when we are working toward a goal. Sometimes we are going to work alone. When is it a good time to work together? Kaitlyn said you could work together on a puzzle. Kara thinks she could work with her mom on a time line. Jake will rake the yard with help. Allen and Tatum think that if you are building things you would have to work together. When is it a good time to work alone? Brittany works alone on test. Daniel likes to read by himself. Kaitlyn works alone on projects.

People either live alone or with others. Animals usually share their space. When does sharing make sense? Nikki shares a room and it makes sense for her because there are more people than rooms at her house. Kaitlyn shares cookies at girl scouts because everyone needs to get the same amount or it wouldn't be fair to anyone. Kara would share with someone who didn't have any because that would be nice.

Today we will read about astronauts who explore space. What do you think it feels like to take off into space? Makayla thinks it would be fun to go into space. Kaitlyn says she might get sick. Ashley is nervous. Brittany thinks it would be awkward. Allen says that it would like Hercules throwing a giant log. Ian would be sick. Andy would want a seat belt. Tristin thinks it would be fun to float. Seth wants to pretend to swim in the air. Elijah wants to pour toothpaste in space to watch it float around.
